“Was it worth it?” I muse at the day’s end,
To have made decent friends and bitter foes,
For a cause that makes crimson hearts rend,
Into tiny pieces the Great Wind blows.
“All of it?” To have thrown those sunny days,
In the pursuit of that which is forgot,
That which wrenches my faculties in ways,
Perplexing to be accepted for naught.
“Was it worth it?” If ignorance is bliss,
And inaction is repose, why trade those
Sweet nothings and that gentle embrace,
For the cold world that your love blindly throws?
“All of it?” I lay down and take my rest,
In a prayer my lips bid only yes.
