On Advice

Mama can be so blunt
With the truth of her word.
All that I want
Is to be heard.

Papa can say
Many things about it;
He has his way
With his impeccable wit.

A kid may protest
When parents apprise
You’re not at your best,
Far from being wise.

A child would disapprove,
For the path we shall take
Is truly farther than what parents have prove.
The experiences different from us they make.

Yet the truth is this:
That one does not know
A stab from a kiss
Until one learns to grow.
