Reconciliation of Thought

A painter, warrior, poet and friend
The list goes on, will it ever end?
No, for such is the dream of the indefatigable man
Who fears the depths of despair and of wan.

What can satisfy the lover of knowledge?
Its taste is addicting for the seeker of challenge.
Power is his mistress, silence is his peer
Secretly he assumes his love and banishes his fear

How miserable is he who knows!
The secrets of the world and his foes,
The limits to which his humanity allows
The very challenge to whom he bows.

With much wisdom comes much sorrow
Yet a sorrow fulfilling than tomorrow
Why must one seek only to lose
To nothingness these half-truths?

Vanity! Says Qoheleth.
For all shall meet someday death
What legacy shall a footprint in the waters leave?
A ripple to which the sea shall weave.
