Lover’s Plight

The days turned cold when sweet September came,
For the northerly winds are here to stay.
Lament to see that love shan’t be the same
Ever again, until the fated day.
Over and under, under and over,
By tempests unfeeling my ship braves through
O rending my sails, thy mast asunder!
And all for what? All is but to see you,
Awaken what I have put to slumber.
For when haply thy memory passes,
Once again, past this faithful lover’s heart,
Not even Jove nor the fearful masses,
Nor ugly hell ever break us apart.
Lovely lady, I shall hasten to thee,
Wait for me, that thy beauty might I see.
